The Eight Hour Shift

  • Mood: grrrrrrr
  • Music: Laughter in the Rain (NOT)

I have an eight hour shift today.  I have an eight hour shift every Saturday, so what’s the big deal?  Sleep.  I actually fell asleep before midnight – 6 hours of sleep would be great – right?  Yeah, if I had gotten 6 hours of sleep.  A little before 2:00 this morning I was woken up by a large clap of thunder.  We do things big in Texas, so this was a LARGE clap of thunder.  It’s been a while since we’ve had rain, so it could have also been the unaccustomed noise that disturbed my sleep, who knows?  Anyway, I lay there thinking I could just roll over and go back to sleep.  But then the voices started talking to me (not them – that would be productive voices).  You know the ones: “Your computer is on.”  “Are you sure the surge protectors are going to work?”  I have little faith in surge protectors.  The last time I got up and closed down the computer because of a storm, the damn thing only lasted for about 10 minutes!  So do I get up out of this cozy bed for a mere 10 minute storm?  Yes.  To check the weatherbug radar.  Blasted thing wouldn’t load the animated thingy (it’s morning, why should I have to remember technical terms?) so I couldn’t tell in what direction the storm was going.  So I turned it off, went to visit the potty and then crawled back in bed.  The storm stopped.  *&*^%   About 4:00 it started up again with a vengeance.  But this time I just curled up and went back to sleep.  But my 6 hours of sleep was interrupted - twice.  I’m toast.  How’s your day been?

Don’t forget it’s book draw – check yesterday’s entry for backstock.

Also, the contest is still going on until the 3rd.  Check Wednesday’s post for details.

Gotta get ready for work.

Oh, and I’m still itching.

33 total marks.

I usually have a hard time falling asleep and I will be up reading until 1 or 2 but then I usually don't get up til 9 anyway.
For all those wanting to know last night, it was a High School competition with 2 schools participating. First place got to go compete at Canada Blooms. If they won there they would go compete in Edmonton and if they won there they would go on to compete in Japan.
I tried posting last night but it kept saying that the site was not accessible. I liked the guys on that site Toni mentioned(the one she gave the address for) I liked the guy lying back, with his eyes closed and white shirt. The man41 was replced by man43. But then he looks brunette.

What I wouldn't give to hear some thunder. Always reminds me of spring. Hope you get some sleep tonight!

Christa - cool! I can tell you're very proud. Yeah, can't ignore those little voices.
Peggy - I love thunder, but for some reason this one kept disturbing me last night.

Folks - as I was driving to work I saw that lightning had hit a business nearby - told you it was loud stuff.

Okay - gotta get back to looking like I'm working.

If I get five hours a night, I count myself lucky. Six or seven feels positively decadent.

Broken sleep is awful! Hope you have a better day!!!
PS. The voices get me too--computer, doors locked, heating down, fire closed ect ect ect--ob-comp behaviour :)

Posted by Eve Mardis:

I'm not ob-comp. Just ask the voices.

Hugs on the lack of sleep, thunder and an itch. Last Friday I had to go to bed at 4:15 in the morning, get up shortly after five, and work 8 hours (at least not my normal 9). So big hugs indeed. And of course enter me into the book draw, if it's okay! I'd love any of RS.

Hugs, Eve--hope the day at work goes by quickly. I hate getting woke up. 6 hours straight feels better to me than 8 hours interrupted.

It's the awful to be in dreamland to wake up for some unknown reason and not able to turn the voices off! It happened to me last night too but it had nothing to do with thunder.

Posted by Eve Mardis:

Olga - Yikes on the sleep. You're entered.
Joely - that's it exactly!
Susan - and just what were the voices telling you

Nothing worth staying awake for unfortunately.

Finished Sinfully Sweet and since I'm not in Texas, I'm going to read Tall, Tanned and Texan by Kimberly Raye. Hopefully it will be the next best thing

One more book until Sinfully Sweet. I've looked at Tall, etc but can't decide if I want to read it or not - let me know how it is.

Day? What day? Oh, you mean Saturday?

Well, that's only been about an hour long so far.

I usually get to bed late or early--depending on your point of view. I think it was about 0500 this morning. Then I have to do that reading bit. I first woke up a bit to loud talking coming from just beyond my bedroom wall. The beauty salon had opened--already? I drifted in and out of sleep, finished the last 30 pages of my book, but my bones just didn't feel like getting up, nor did my mind. It was just too fuzzy. Finally around 1400 the loud stuff stopped and I fell into a deep sleep.

A telephone call woke me. It was my friend Janet asking if I needed to do some shopping or just wanted to get out a bit. I agreed and hopped out of bed (misnomer: I can't hop.) I looked at the clock because of course I'd forgotten all about my sleep disturbances. 1600?!! Who would have thunk. Anyway, it's almost an hour later and as I'm waiting for Janet who's waiting for her daughter to bring the car home, I'm occupying my time this way, because starting anything else would be silly when I'll have to leave any minute--sort of like you, Eve, trying to gauge how long the thunderstorm will be.

1st off - Thanks to all for prayers for my Mom. She's doing VERY well, in rehab & the docs are saying that if she keeps up the recovery at the pace she's going, she'll be home (w/ a walker & visiting nurse) in 2wks. YIPEE!! I knew I came by my (ahem) strong will honestly! (Eve, shutup, I am NOT stubborn!!)
Ruby - hugs & prayers to you & yours.
Christa - congrats to the kiddos!
Cece - congrats on the nominations!
And geez I know I'm missing stuff here but... well, my brain cells are fried.
And my vote for the I NEED A MAN: Ben Browder or Michael Shanks or Matthew McConaughey. Or.. oh geez I can't remember his name... was in Replacements & in the TV thing Young Riders? about the pony express... Eve you know who I mean & we can find pics of him in cowboy gear.

Hi. Just wanted to see if something is wrong? I've tried commenting the past couple of days, and they aren't showing up. Hope you got them. Or, if I said something and made you mad, I'm sorry, it wouldn't have been intentional. I'd do just about anything else than to hurt someone. Anyway, hope your day got better and you got to rest. B.

Ruby - are you telling me you slept all day Saturday? I am soooo jealous.
Bebo - Brett Cullen
Brandy - sweetie - we're okay - sometimes blogs do that - delete comments and I never know about it. I think it did it to Melissa the other day.
