Lions and Tigers and Bears .... Oh my

  • Mood: Achy and dizzy
  • Music: Achey breaky heart

Not much to say today because I’m pretty miserable this morning and I want to try to get a nap in before the game.  Plus, mom was up to her now usual antics at about 4:00 this morning, which hasn’t helped this cold or whatever is going on.

I was watching “The Jerry Jones” show last night.  They had Moose on because he was going to be one of the analysts for today’s game.  When asked about the game, Moose said that Parcell’s would need to go against his game plan of running the ball because of the Lion’s strong front seven.  He felt that because of injuries to the Lion’s secondary, that the pass would be more effective.  So Scott, what do you think?

Other news:  They re-signed kicker Billy Cundiff on Saturday and let Shaun Shoeshine go (I can’t spell his last name and I’m too sick to get up and look it up – shoeshine works for me).  Kind of a shame because I thought Shoeshine was doing a decent job, but, I’m really fond of Cundiff for varying reasons, one of which is he graduated from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.  I was born in Des Moines and spent the first 8 years of my life there.  I have fond memories of Drake – the stadium was about a block from my home and across from it was the practice field.  After football season they would ice down the field and create this great outdoor ice skating rink.  Also, the Drake relays are considered one of the major track and field events in all of college-dom.  My brothers used to sell parking spaces in our front and back yards to people attending the game.  It’s ironic because after Drake bought out our neighborhood our house became a parking lot.  Go figure.

Mom will be drawing the name for the book giveaway today, so if you’re still interested go back to Friday’s entry and look over the backlist and let me know if there’s something there you would like.

13 total marks.

Hey, just checking in, taking a break from sending out yet more resumes & doing laundry and cleaning out closets. Hope you feel better today.

Who am I to argue with the Moose? But I will register my opposing thoughts nonetheless. It seems to me that the winner of the ground game controls the clock and keeps the opposing offense off the field. The running game must succeed to keep the safeties and linebackers thinking and respecting the run. Julius Jones is hopefully back to form today, and our line needs to step up their game, or this team has no hope of making it to the SuperBowl. I say try the running game and challenge our oline to produce the gaps. Otherwise the defense thinks pass all day which means double coverage on Glenn.

I'm glad to have Cundiff back--really glad. Shoeshine never had any real tests, having only to try for field goals hardly beyond extra point range.

Hopefully Henry is back today, because the Detroit O will be better for the return of their own Roy Williams, and we need all the db help we have to stop all their receivers.

By the way, the game isn't televised here, so I'll be at NFL.com watching the text version of the game. It hurts!

I hope Philly takes down the Giants today. We have a three game lead on Philly, so let's hope they can shut NY down.

How's that for sticking to the running game huh? That's why Moose is a commentator and Parcels is a coach. Hah!

Posted after the first drive, Marion Barber touchdown and JuJo tearing it up!

Thanks y'all - The Sister-in-Law is bringing me some medicine so I should be better by then.

Scott - I'm not familiar with Detroit's team this year, so I wasn't sure if Moose had a point or not, which is why I wanted your opinion. Valid point, but after seeing that goal line stance that resulted in the 3-pointer it just seems insane to keep running the ball when we have Keyshawn, T. Glenn, Witten, etc. and we haven't made it in on the first 2 tries. Just my humble opinion.
Great TD by Barber.

Sounds like you might be right. At least it keeps Detroit wondering what we'll do. Nice to have Billy back huh?

We did it!!!
Man, I thought for a minute there that Philly was going to cause an upset. They showed the score and Philly was only 3 points behind the Giants. Damn ...

Mixed reviews on the running game I think. Overall around 140-150 yards. Not bad. After the failed goal line stand it looks like MB had another rushing TD.

Yes, Barber had another touch down. Good game, Lions helped a lot with their multitude of penalties. It was good to see Henry back in the game towards the end. He made a couple of crucial plays.
